Auguste Rodin

"Rodin adopted an encyclopedic approach tot he human body, building up as a completet as possible an anatomical catalogue. He wanted to study and set down on paper everything the human frame would allow, in a single line or sometimes servel, lightly tinted watercolour or hightlighted in deeper blood-red or purple tones. Some of the time this meant tense, detailed representation , at others approach was more elliptic with just a few more curves or an outline , often in pencil."
