In Batchelors talk he expresses his interest in colour and why he is not interested in the myths that surround the use of colour in modern art. He talks about the colour experiences in the modern city and the concept of the ready made crass low art, that many art crits label works that are produced in this way. Colour is seen as not appropriate to the serious conceptual artist.I have also been faced with these questions of if I understand the colours I am appiling to the pieces. Batchelors arises the point of the colour just being a way to expresses ideas and marking through ideas instead of the many connatations of being devalued, kitch, primative and femmine , not a serious study seen as 'other' to the higher workings of the western mind with Plato in 19th/20th centruy theoris. Charles Whites states that to imerse in colours you fall , its dangerous and seductive dreamlike with the assoiasations of being undre the influence. Whereas Batchelor is aready colour intervise materials , this is where I feel my work should devolovpe to alimiate the concious desision of appiling certain colours and opened up my own colour field.
