Anthony Caro

Early Anthony Caros work were abstract figures in which relates heavily to the starting point of my own work were then developed further to complete abstraction. He believes the figuration as distracting form the materials themselves " I didn't want my sculpture to be pretending" making the object stand for itself as a sculpture not a figurative representation. The use of a plinth is also explored in his work, and placing it on the floor makes it real and immediate. Researching this helped develop my own work bringing the work away from the wall and the plinth to create more of a personal relation/conversation with the viewer.
